What Is a Vase Insert?

With the glass vase insert, your Farvel urn becomes a flower vase. The waterproof insert fits perfectly into the urn’s opening, allowing you to arrange fresh flowers directly inside the urn. This way, the urn isn’t just a place of remembrance—it becomes part of your everyday life. The insert is easy to remove and clean.

I'd like to get to know my home in the afterlife while I'm still alive

The idea didn’t come from us, but from a customer. Enthusiastic about our urns, she told us that she wanted to display her urn in her home while she was still alive. That way, she could familiarize herself with the idea of the afterlife and get to know her future resting place. She asked if she could fill the urn with water and decorate it with flowers. While this was possible, we didn’t recommend it, as water could leak out through small openings. So we developed our own solution: a two-part vase insert. A 3D-printed attachment fits into the urn’s opening and holds a handmade glass that collects the water. This allows the urn to be filled with fresh flowers without getting wet.

How It Works

The insert is made of handcrafted glass and is waterproof. You fill it with water, place it in the opening of the urn, and arrange your flowers just as you would in a regular vase. Because the glass securely holds the water, the urn itself stays dry and retains its shape. To change the flowers or clean the urn, simply remove the insert.

• In a hospice, people often consciously spend their final days. Some grapple intensely with the idea of their own passing during this phase. In such cases, the urn may already be in the room, serving as a vase for flowers. In this way, it becomes a quiet part of the process of saying goodbye even while the person is still alive.

• During the viewing, fresh flowers placed in the urn create a warm, personal atmosphere. The urn no longer stands there austerely, but instead appears vibrant and lovingly arranged. Family members can choose the flowers themselves—perhaps the deceased’s favorite flowers—and thus give the urn a very personal touch. A simple vessel becomes a place where grief and affection can be expressed.
